Developing Innovative, Accessible, & Equitable Strategies

A Guide to Instructional Design

Welcome!

Let's Learn Together

Hello! I'm John Broda and I am an Instructional Designer and Performing Artist. I am currently teaching at Southern Methodist University: Meadows School of the Arts and earning my MFA in Acting. Previous to coming to SMU, I earned my M.Ed. in Instructional Design and eLearning from Southern Wesleyan University. I believe that the best way to create more meaningful, accessible, and equitable learning experiences for all learners is through sharing our ideas and experiences with one another. Every student has a different entry point when learning content. As a teacher and instructional designer it is my desire to create the most efficient and meaningful entry points for learners to help them engage deeply with the content and achieve optimal performance.

It is my desire to create learning environments spaces empower us all (designers, learners, and educators) to transcend our greatest barriers in order to create meaningful learning experiences that help us grow. If you are interested in learning a little bit more about me, check out My Journey

A Guide to Instructional Design

Assessment

In any course, via face-to-face or online, assessment must take place in order to assess if the student is actually learning the new desired skills or content being taught.

What is the perfect formula for assessment? Are there certain practices to avoid? How do we optimize eLearning through the assessment process?

Communication

Every audience requires different communication styles. In online learning, being proactive and strategizing how to communicate with learners is imperative to their success.

What is the most efficient way to connect with each learner individually and collectively? With so many avenues for communication, how do we chose the best fit for each course?

Means of Learning

Engaging online learners can be challenging at times. As designers and instructors, our responsibility is to design in a way that optimizes students' learning.

Since there are more ways than ever to engage learners online, how do we narrow down our resources? How much content is too much?

The Brainstorm Blog is coming soon! On this blog I will post my research, insights, and discoveries about the world of instructional design. From time to time you may see guest blogs and there will always be a comment section where we can share resources, ideas, and insights with one another. I look forward to this collaborative learning environment.

I've enjoyed building my portfolio this year. Feel free to check out my latest Projects. On this page you will find my face-to-face course adaptation, design materials, and a LMS Evaluation Presentation.
